Bell Microproducts Sponsors Three LPGA Touring Professionals

Updated: July 9, 2008; 8:43 AM CT
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Bell Microproducts Inc. (BELM.PK), one of the world’s largest value-added distributors of storage and computing technology and the host to the 2008 Bell Micro LPGA Classic, signed a one-year agreement with promising LPGA golfers Erica Blasberg, Irene Cho and Charlotte Mayorkas. As part of their agreement with Bell Microproducts, former 2006 Honda college player of the year Cho will wear Bell Microproducts’ logo on both her hat and left chest while former NCAA freshman of the year Blasberg will represent the sponsor with a logo on her sleeve and the back of her shirt. Mayorkas, the three-time First Team NCAA All American, will wear the logo on her hat.

In addition to representing Bell Microproducts on the course, the three players will be expected to make appearances off of it as well to promote their sponsor and the upcoming LPGA Bell Micro Classic in September. “As an international, world-class distributor of computer products, Bell Micro is proud to sponsor these three consummate professionals, and to be associated with the LPGA Tour. Through our athlete sponsorships, we hope to generate further interest in and excitement about the upcoming inaugural Bell Micro LPGA Classic, a full field tournament to be played this September in Mobile, Alabama,” noted Joe Cousins, vice president of marketing for Bell Microproducts.

The unique partnership of Bell Microproducts and these elite athletes highlights the broad appeal of the LPGA and indicates that female golfers can sell much more than the latest fashion on the links. Bell Microproducts’ LPGA interests have been realized not only with their commitment to their own sponsored event in Mobile, Alabama, but also with the signing of three of the tour’s most competitive young stars. Blasberg, Mayorkas and Cho are serious up-and-coming professionals whose representation by Bell Microproducts makes the point that the LPGA has no limits to its appeal in the international business community.

About Erica Blasberg:
Since the age of five, the 24 year old California native was a golfer. Any uncertainty regarding her golf future at Erica Blasberg’s young age was put to rest very early with three first team Polo All American honors in the American Junior Golf Association later as well as taking the 2002 Rolex Tournament of Champions. She continued to tote success at the University of Arizona, earning 2003 NCAA Freshman of the Year and NCAA Player of the Year honors while finishing with six collegiate tournament wins. Wasting time was never one of Blasberg’s best qualities, and after two successful collegiate years, it was time to turn pro. Eight events on the Futures Tour, four top-ten finishes including a win at the Laconia Savings Bank Futures Golf Classic, and a 32nd showing at the 2005 LPGA Final qualifying Tournament proved more than enough to get her on the LPGA tour where she now competes with the same passion and optimism that her dad once observed of his five year old prodigy’s first day on the links.

About Irene Cho:
Also born and raised in the golf hotbed which is Southern California, Irene Cho made no delay in getting her name thrown around as one of the premier amateur players in the country. Starting at the age of 11, she developed uncommonly fast, winning American Junior Golf Association All-America honors in 2002 along with 13 top ten AJGA finishes. She then took her game a short drive away to the prestigious golf team at the University of Southern California. There she won five collegiate tournaments and was named to three NCAA All-American teams. Her senior year was her coming out party, as her hard work was finally rewarded with the 2006 Honda NCAA player of the Year along with the Pac-10 Player of the Year. Refusing to remain satisfied with collegiate greatness, Irene embarked on a professional career, going on to earn exempt status on the 2007 LPGA Tour with her tie for 10th in the 2006 Qualifying Tournament. With her uncanny drive to succeed and her happy-go-lucky personality, it’s only a matter of time until she finds her name on a tournament’s top ten.

About Charlotte Mayorkas:
On only her second attempt on the Futures Tour, Charlotte Mayorkas earned her LPGA Tour card and became a LPGA Tour rookie in 2007. Was the top player on her high school boys’ golf team. She was a second-team selection for 2000 American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Polo All-America honors, after winning the Hudson Junior Invitational and the AJGA RS Investment Sacramento Junior Classic. Mayorkas was a four-year letter winner at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and recorded five collegiate wins, while helping lead the Bruins to the 2004 NCAA Championship title. She was UCLA’s first three-time NGCA First-Team All-American (2003- 05). Mayorkas was a three-year All Pac-10 First-Team selection (2003-05), 2004 Pac-10 individual champion and voted the 2004 Pac-10 Player of the Year.
